Coronation Party Weekend in Portsmouth

The Royal Maritime Hotel & Club sounds like the ideal place to celebrate the Coronation of Charles III. The venue is perfectly placed to enjoy Portsmouth's attractions, being just 200m from Portsmouth Historical Dockyard and within easy walking distance of both Portsmouth Harbour railway station and Gunwharf Quays Shopping Centre, a prime location for a great weekend break. We have booked two nights with the option of adding a third night.

Your smoke-free hotel room contains a flat screen Freeview TV and tea/coffee making facilities, there is free Wi-Fi available throughout the hotel, and a full English breakfast is included. You can choose from a Classic room or a Budget room.

During your stay, you'll be able to enjoy the hotel swimming pool, with a Jacuzzi and steam room. You can have a game of pool, snooker or darts. On the Friday evening we have exclusive use of the 2 lane skittle alley and the Below Decks bar where we will be served a basket meal. Afterwards you can relax in the hotel or we can organise late night cocktails and dancing at Eden (cocktail bar at Gunwharf Quays)

Saturday we will find somewhere to watch the Coronation, there are likely to be large screens set up for everyone to enjoy the proceedings. On Saturday evening there will be a black tie party, with 3 course meal and DJ to dance the night away. If you choose to stay a third night, we will book a meal at one of the many restaurants at Gunwharf Quays.

Over the weekend there is lots to do in the area, and I'm planning to run a trip to the Spinnaker tower, a harbour tour, and arrange tickets to the Historic Dockyard. Attractions include HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, The National Museum of the Royal Navy, HMS M.33, The Mary Rose Museum, Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower and The Royal Navy Submarine Museum. I can’t confirm prices yet as I’m waiting for the 2023 prices to be announced. I’m hoping to run the Harbour Tour and Spinnaker Tower visit on the Sunday afternoon. Many of the attractions at the historic dockyard can be accessed via a single ticket, which once purchased can be used for 12 months, so you can use it Friday to Sunday/ Monday and then if you still haven’t seen everything, you have an excuse to go back to Portsmouth again!

Note: There is a supplement of £36 per person for guest bookings. Double share rooms are only for couples and places must be booked for both people.

What better way to celebrate an extra day in the year than to have a party! As 29th February 2020 fell on a Saturday, it seemed the only thing we could do was host a 1920s style party! Everyone threw themselves into the spirit, and you can check our Facebook page for more amazing photos.
