Chance Glassworks and Canalside Tour
Overview
The Chance Glass Works was once one of the most important industrial employers in the Midlands region; at its height employing 3500 people and exporting a wide variety of products, including its famed lighthouse lenses, around the world.
These days only a few buildings remain, they are Grade II listed and site is a Scheduled Monument. Not usually open to the public, today they will be giving tours of the iconic Seven Storey Building, talking about the history and significance of the site and giving you a chance to learn more of the company’s fascinating story as well as looking at some of the wide range of products produced by the company.
There will also be an opportunity to join a walking tour along the Birmingham Main Line and Brindley Line Canals, to view canal site buildings and learn more about the role of the canal navigation network in supporting the distribution of the factory's goods to the rest of the world.
