Unfortunately, our usual pub, The Park Gate Inn are no longer doing food. However, Rob has slightly altered the starting point of the ramble and it will now be slightly longer at 6 miles.
We return to the southern part and highest part of Cannock Chase with Rob Smith for a 6 mile ramble.
We start and the side of Gentleshaw common passing Beaudesert scout camp. After a short road section, we reach "Castle Ring", the site of an ancient Hill Fort. This is the highest point of the Chase and has great views this time towards Rugeley and Stafford.
We walk into the Chase using good paths with some woodland and some open areas as well as some small pools.
There are some gentle gradients but nothing too strenuous and, as usual, we will take our time.
The new pub does an excellent Sunday lunch. It also has a very pretty beer garden with views of Lichfield and the surrounding Area.
