At Spice we have decided we will be shaking off those January Blues by heading to Butlins in Skegness for an extended weekend break! The first weekend in February is an adults only, Live Music Weekend entitled the Bootleg Ball. Butlins has always proved a popular place with us Spicers - there is plenty to do and see, a diverse entertainment programme and it is great value for money which won't break the bank after all the Christmas and New Year Festivities!
A bit of history for you! Skegness was the first ever Butlin's resort to open back in 1936. It holds a special place within the Butlins' story and heritage. Intentionally, it is host to a traditional Fairground where you can buy classic seaside treats from toffee apples to candyfloss; a nod if you like to it's past and beginnings.
The Plan
Our lovely Spice Coordinator Pam will be heading this weekend up, which you can opt into as much or as little of this as you like. Remember - it is your weekend away! We have opted into a dining package so breakfast and dinner is all taken care of and catered for. That way we can all meet up twice a day to discuss our plans for that day or share stories about the night before' s antics over food and a drink or two. Don't forget Butlins loves Fancy Dress, so I would suggest we dress up on the Saturday Night and anything goes ! There is not a theme. If you prefer not to dress up that's fine too.
The Main Event - Music Line Up
The Bootleg Ball is a compilation of some of the best tribute bands around, which pay homage to music icons throughout the generations. Take a look at the line up below:
Things to Do
The facilities are really quite comprehensive. Feeling a strike coming along? Head on down for some 10 pin bowling. Or feeling lucky? Bring along your spare change for the arcades. Or have you got the snooker in you? Why not hire out a pool table? If you are an avid Sports fan - do not fear - for you can head over to the bar and catch all the major games on the big screens. Beyond the main music line up, you can watch some Live Comedy and even attend some parties with a difference - a silent disco and/or pool party!
There are plenty or restaurants and bars to whet your appetites! They cover a range of cuisine including good ol' fish and chips - we have to go there as we are so close to the sea!
If you would like a break from all the action and noise on the resort, there are plenty of relaxing activities to engage in too. There is a health spa where you can take a swim, enjoy a reviving Atlantic Storm shower, relax in the Hydrospa, wake up with a cold drench, feel the burn in the gym, or treat yourself to a massage or facial. You’ll be provided with a robe and towel for your stay, with complimentary tea, coffee and soft drinks served during your session.
You can even venture a little further out into Skegness proper. Skegness was once upon a time a fishing village with a small port. Take a walk along the beautiful Blue Flag beach which is literally on the doorstep. Or why not channel your inner David Attenborough and make a visit to Skegness Aquarium or the Natureland Seal Sanctuary?
