Broadway Tower and Cotswolds Harder Walk second group

Second Group: This will be led by Chris Boyce and will follow shortly behind Trevor's group but keep a distance.

Join Trevor Hyde for this 10 mile walk exploring some of the Cotswolds as we pass though picture postcard villages and enjoy long views to the distant hills for most of the outing. 

We start by walking through Broadway, early enough to avoid the crowds jostling for cream tees, then traversing the lower reaches of the main escarpment crossing numerous stiles we eventually arrive at the picturesque church in Saintbury. We then shortly pass the ruins of an ancient moated manor house with beautiful church on the edge of Weston. Our route then starts to climb the escarpment, passing through National Trust woodland to reward us with views to the far distance when we arrive at the top. 

We keep to the top and head south west for a few miles to arrive at the folly called Broadway Tower. We will rest here awhile to enjoy the views and make use of the café before descending back to Broadway through the country park. It is expected that the walk will take 4h 30mins at least.

On arriving back at the car park, we can head to the Broadway Hotel to enjoy a drink in their beer garden and you may wish to spend some time wandering around the town. Also nearby is Snowshill Manor, a National Trust property that you may wish to explore to extend you day.

Notes: Walking poles will help those with dodgy knees when descending. Good hiking footwear is essential for this walk as it can be muddy in the second half after heavy rain. Waterproofs will be needed if only to protect for the wind on the main escarpment. Bring a packed lunch and some water and sun-cream. Route not really suitable for dogs. There are numerous stiles to be negotiated.
