Overview

As of 28/12/19 one sole occupancy room available due to cancellation.

Overview: This year the New Year’s break with Steve Dell and Arlene is in Bristol and will have walks from The Mendip Hills, Bath and in Bristol itself.

There will be both a walking and a social programme of activities each day. As usual you can of course mix and match the walking and social stuff.

As the 2nd January is a working day we start on the 29th December and finish on the 1st January. You can book an extra night to stay over on the 1st to chill out and relax on New Year’s Day if you don’t need to rush back.

So whether you are a walker, want a social break over New Year or a mixture of both this break is for you.

On the Friday you can either arrive by lunchtime for an afternoon walk or social activity or arrive in the evening.

The walking will be easy to moderate as there are some inclines but as usual we will take our time and enjoy the scenery.

We stay at the Doubletree by Hilton hotel in Bristol which is short walk from Temple Meads train railway station. There is parking at the hotel but you could get the train as we won’t need our cars over the weekend; the plan is to use the train, bus or hire a coach to take us to the walks.

The walking programme: There will be a walking programme over the break with a short afternoon walk on the 29th, a full day’s walk on the 30th, a moderate day walk on the 31st (so we can get back to get ready for our New Year party) and a walk from the hotel on New Year’s Day to blow off the cobwebs.

The walking programme is still being developed and will appear here over the next few weeks but the walks will be places like the Mendip Hills, a walk around the Avon Valley into Bath, the woodlands around Avon Gorge including views of the world famous Clifton suspension bridge from various aspects.

The social / Touristy stuff: There is plenty to do if you don’t want to walk or want to mix and match with the walking.

Bristol’s waterfront and Harbourside has been transformed in recent years to become a major leisure destination in its own right, with its stylish cafes, bars, museums & galleries and of course there is the SS Great Britain. Bristol is a remarkable place where old and new architecture live side by side. The Old City with its medieval churches, historic buildings, castle ruins and bustling markets is near to ultra-chic Cabot Circus, Bristol’s newest shopping area.

We will also look into a pantomime in Bristol (oh yes we will).

One day we can catch the train to and discover Bath with attractions such as The Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, Jane Austen Centre etc

Evenings and meals: As we are in the vibrant city of Bristol, the package will be on a Bed & Breakfast basis for the Sunday and Monday evenings, enabling us to eat out and experience some of the many restaurants Bristol has to offer. Steve & Arlene will arrange group meals on these nights. There will be a gala meal at the New Year’s Eve party included.

New Year’s Eve Party: We will have our own private party in part of their Ballroom. We start with Dinner followed by our disco which will see us well into the New Year. We will be letting in 2020 with the Spice South West members so it will be a great crowd.

New Year’s Day: After a late breakfast there will be the option of a walk directly from the hotel to discover Bristol’s waterside and park areas.

Extra night: You can book an extra night and stay over on the 1st to chill out and relax on New Year’s Day if you don’t need to rush back. Last time we had a movie afternoon with popcorn which was a perfect way to finish New Year’s Day off.
