Overview

Following a successful visit to New York a couple of years ago a number of members returned and suggested a trip to Boston would be a great alternative. So with the help of one of the members and the coordinator from that trip here is what we have come up with – we hope you can join us!

Boston is probably best known for its famous baked beans, Fenway Park, The Boston Marathon, and of course for the bar from Cheers, but dig a little deeper below the surface and you'll find a surprising wealth of things that make Boston one of the best cities in America—and the world

Boston is Massachusetts’ capital and largest city. Founded in 1630, it’s one of the oldest cities in the U.S. The key role it played in the American Revolution is highlighted on the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile walking route of historic sites that tells the story of the nation’s founding. One stop, former meeting house Faneuil Hall, is a popular marketplace.

The tour operator for this flight inclusive holiday is Spice UK Ltd (ATOL 9046) for whom we act as agent. This holiday is protected by the Civil Aviation Authority under the ATOL scheme in the event of failure of the tour operator. Spice UK Ltd holiday terms and conditions apply, as supplied with the full holiday information pack. Your money is protected via our trust account in compliance with EC travel regulations.

Location & Itinerary

Thanks to West Midlands member Chris Kennedy who has suggested this break and has very kindly proposed a possible itinerary for your time in Boston. It’s pretty full on but certainly makes the most of your break. Of course everything is optional and you can do as much or as little as you like with the group or head off to do your own thing.

Day 1 – Get to the hotel and settle in. Your Spice coordinator will let you know when everyone will get together for a drink before heading on for an evening meal.

Day 2 – Full Day making use of the Hop on/ Hop off trolley bus tour tickets. Visit the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum.

Day 3 – Full Day Witch City Tour of Salem and Marbelhead. Travel north from Boston to historic Marblehead, the birthplace of the American Navy, while enjoying the rugged coastal view from Castle Rock, a unique New England panorama. Make a stop at Abbott Hall to hear a short lecture and view the original 7' x 10' oil painting titled "The Spirit of '76", once known only as Yankee Doodle. This painting symbolized the spirit of the American Revolution and has been called the "most patriotic painting in the world." Next, head to Salem – famous for the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. There are a wealth of interesting places to visit related to the Witch Trials as well as maritime and literary connections.

Day 4 - Join a 3-hour cruise in the morning for the opportunity to spot whales off the coast of Boston. See these magnificent creatures close-up from the deck of your ship. Spot Humpback and Finback whales and see White Sided Dolphins frolicking in the waters. This afternoon joining a walking tour of Boston’s Freedom Trail escorted by an official guide in olde worlde costume.

Day 5 – A free day for you to explore on your own. There are plenty of other things to discover in and around Boston such as a Harbour cruise, Duck tours, visit the Cheers Bar, Havard University tours, Fenway Park tours (home of the Boston Red Sox).

Day 6 – Final day but not to be wasted as your flights are late so you can continue to make the most of time in this great city.

Before you depart a list of all pre-bookable optional trips will be circulated and you can do as much or little as you like.
