We are hoping to find snowdrops in the ancient woodlands of Hayhead Wood, Merrions Wood and The Dingle today, but this lovely 8 mile moderate walk has a variety of other points of appeal.
It includes the site of an airport from the golden age of flying (now a nature reserve), a quiet stretch of the Rushall Canal (a late waterway of the canal age); one of the highest points in the West Midlands; a historic church; limestone quarry; and the chance to visit a place called 'Cuckoos's Nook'! Richard will endevour to explain it all as as we go!
There is also a nice pub stop option near the end.
It's fairly easy walking in the main, on field paths and canal towpath. There is a hill up to the Beacon but it's pretty gentle and we will take it easy.
