Overview

Update as at 16/10/19: Only arboretum entrance tickets available now as we have had to finalise the afternoon tea numbers.

Join us for a visit to this beautiful arboretum at the most spectacular time of the year. Autumn is when the trees provide us with their glorious colours as they prepare for hibernation for winter.

Arley Arboretum is situated on the banks of the magnificent River Severn at Upper Arley, within the stunning scenery of the Arley Estate, near the historic market town of Bewdley.

One of the oldest and most spectacular Arboreta in Britain, it is now open to the public thanks to the Trustees of the Roger and Douglas Turner Charitable Trust.

The Arboretum is home to over 300 species of trees and features Britain’s longest Laburnum arch, measuring 65 metres. Popular with nature lovers, families and walkers, Arley Arboretum is a magical place to visit throughout the year, with every season bringing a different breath-taking vista.

The visit can be booked with or without Afternoon Tea.

The itinerary for the day, if travelling with the group on the steam train is…

10:00 Catch the train from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth

11:50 Return on the 'same' train from Bridgnorth to Arley

12:38 Walk from Arley station to Arley Arboretum (its about ½ a mile / 10 mins)

13:00 Walk around the Arboretum (self-guided but as a group)

14:30 Afternoon Tea

Or you can meet us at the Arboretum just before 1pm

Severn Valley Railway: You can meet us at the arboretum or make more of a day of the visit and travel to Arley using the Seven Valley Railway. The plan is to catch the 10:00 from Kidderminster (unfortunately the 11:20 is a usually a diesel) and travel on this the whole length of the line to Bridgnorth, there are quite a few areas of woodland to this too will be all autumnal. We then catch the next train back to Arley where we can walk to the arboretum. After visiting the arboretum we can walk back to Arley station and either just return to Kidderminster or explore the railway more.

This needs to be booked separately – please use this link

Afternoon Tea: Why not book the option to join us after the walk around the gardens in the Garden Tearoom for Afternoon Tea. The tranquil tearoom is located within the walled gardens of the Arboretum and is a great place to relax after an enjoyable walk around the gardens.

Served in on pretty vintage china, our afternoon tea from the Arley House Kitchen, consists of tiered cake plates of…

  • Seasonal finger sandwiches (typically from a selection of smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise, freshly baked ham, cheese and chutney, cucumber)
  •  Home-baked scones, clotted cream and jam
  • A selection of Chef’s mini cakes including homemade lemon drizzle loaf, carrot cake, gooey chocolate brownies, classic Victoria sponge
  • All enjoyed with a pot of tea or coffee.

Enjoyed this visit and the food. Would happily go again, either for Autumn colour next year or at a different time of year.
