Ashby Woulds and National Forest Hard Walk
Overview
The route: This is about 10 miles of undulating ground though no big hills, on good tracks and paths in a part of our countryside that is often overlooked in favour of the loftier hills to the north.
The route cuts through areas of the National Forest that have been reclaimed from the defunct coal industry as well as sections of the Ashby Canal and the area known as Conkers. 8 million trees were planted in this area and the transformation is striking.
Bring a packed lunch, though we will go on to work up an appetite worthy of Hick’s Café’s various cakes on our return.
