An Afternoon Visit to The Living Rainforest in Berkshire
Overview
If you missed this first time around, you now have another wonderful opportunity to visit The Living Rainforest to see some of the wonderful plants and wildlife that the world is losing as rainforests sadly disappear.
The Living Rainforest Centre is run by the Trust for Sustainable Living which is a global educational charity, with the aim of helping the next generation to achieve a sustainable future. They welcome around 100,000 visitors each year experiencing the sights, sounds and smells of a lush tropical rainforest environment whilst exploring how plants, animals, human needs, economies and cultures are all linked. The centre is home to over 850 species of plants and animals, including rare and endangered species of global conservation value.
The Living Rainforest has evolved over many years and was originally home to one of Europe’s leading orchid nurseries. In 2000, after a short time under the World Land Trust, the centre was taken over by Karl Hansen who re-established it as The Living Rainforest centre, featuring ecosystem and sustainability exhibits.
The Living Rainforest boast high standards of animal welfare ensuring that their animals have the five basic freedoms for animals in captivity.
We will wander round at our leisure obviously maintaining social distancing whilst remaining part of a small group. The café will be open for purchasing a limited range of takeaway light bites, drinks and ice creams if we fancy some light refreshments during the afternoon. These can be taken away or delivered by staff to the outdoor table area, where socially distanced tables are available, subject to there being tables free. All tables will be cleaned and sanitised between uses.
Important: You will be required to wear a face covering in all indoor areas within The Living Rainforest. This includes the entrance building, the gift shop, café and toilets, as well as the glasshouse exhibits. The shop will be open for your visit essentials and limited souvenirs. All payments are to be made by card only. No cash is permitted.
