Alison's Walk - Blackness Castle
Overview
This lovely walk starts and ends at Blackness Castle, a 15th century castle in Blackness Village on the banks of the Forth near Linlithgow and Bo'ness. The castle has a long, varied history, it has been a garrison, a prison, and in recent years has featured in several movies, including Franco Zeffirelli's Hamlet and Outlander. From the castle we follow the path along the foreshore where there are great views of the Forth bridges, then we head into Wester Shore Wood.
Location & Itinerary
This walk is about 5-6 miles with minimal ascent and will take around 2.5-3 hours depending on stops.
Meet outside the Blackness Inn at 10:00. Drive to the centre of Blackness Village, there is parking outside the Inn, or to the right or left at the bottom of the hill.
Blackness Castle is currently closed, but hopefully the grounds are still available.
