Overview
2020 is possibly a year that will be remembered by many for all the wrong reasons but 2021 promises to bring something special to the Spice calendar as we celebrate our 40th year of bringing friendship and fun to anyone who is willing to let us!
Every 5 years since 2006 Spice has held an Anniversary Ball and this has been a highly memorable event still spoken about with great fondness by many, but whether this will be your first Anniversary Ball or you’re one of the old guard and it’s your fourth it promises to be another fantastic occasion and we truly hope you are able to join us to celebrate everything that is the best of Spice in our Ruby year.
We had hoped to be able to give lots more detail about this event as we started planning at the start of 2020; unfortunately however a small global incident has interrupted our planning so we are going with the basics!
Please note – to give as many members as possible the opportunity to attend this event we have initially made it a member exclusive event. Make sure you book early to secure your place.
Includes
3 course meal with ½ bottle of wine per person, Welcome reception drink, late evening snack, after party party, DJ & disco, Live band. If you book accommodation as well this includes breakfast.
Extras
Spice Manchester and its coordinator Lauren will be laying on a number of optional events that you can book on to (we will let you know when they are available). You will be most welcome to join us on our organised events or you can head off independently to explore the city and try out some of the fantastic bars and restaurants if you are making a weekend of it and staying a couple of nights.
Travel & Stay
The Midland Hotel
If you decide to book your accommodation through Spice to stay at the Ball venue you are in for a treat. As well as being one of the city’s oldest hotels it is in a superb location with easy access to shops, bars and restaurants so you can make the most of your time. Check in will be from 3pm but if you arrive early you will be able to leave your luggage and head off into town.
The Midland offers its guests a host of onsite amenities to enjoy including a gym, the Rena Spa with heated relaxation pool, steam rooms and some treatments, plus a hairdressing salon (pre-booking is advisable and we will provide more details nearer the time).
On to the rooms you can relax and enjoy one of the luxuriously elegant hotel rooms combining The Midland’s signature charm with modern style. Standard rooms include:

- Iron and Ironing Board
- Tea and coffee making facilities
- Hairdryer
- Flatscreen television
- Complimentary Mineral Water
However, if you would like to upgrade to a superior room for a little extra luxury we do have some available. Superior rooms include everything in a standard room but are larger and offer bathrobe and slippers.
NB - When booking and selecting your chosen room type please pick carefully, there are a number of room and day options available!
Driving
If you come by car the hotel does not have it's own car park but has a number of public car parks nearby. One of the closest is the NCP Great Northern and it is worth pre-booking your space nearer the time as it can save you quite a bit rather than paying on departure
Train
Manchester has two main stations - Piccadilly and Victoria. Most will arrive into Piccadilly but no matter which you are at it's either a short taxi ride or a few stops on the Metro to get to the hotel. If you choose to travel on the Metro choose one heading to Altringham and get off at St Peter's Square (don't worry we will include all this in the joining information we send out before the weekend).
