Adventure is out there

Aug 01, 2017

Adventure

Otherwise known as some fantastic things you can do with the rest of your previous summer. Even if the weather isn’t that great (and it’s looking like it won’t be) you can still get out there and do adventurous things with your time. At Spice we believe that the weather shouldn’t ever stop you having fun, so we’ve pulled together a list of some of the fantastic, adventure driven things you can do in the UK this summer.

The Three Peaks Challenge

In case you’re not familiar with it, the National Three Peaks Challenge invites people to climb the highest mountains of England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours. That’s Scafell Pike for England, Ben Nevis (Beinn Nibheis) for Scotland and Snowdown (Yr Wyddfa) for Wales. This challenge is typically done to raise money for charities, but there is nothing stopping the eager adventurer from attempting it solo. You do have to be fairly fit to attempt it, but the views you’re rewarded with are just spectacular. And if you’re not feeling up to doing all 3, you can always pick your favourite and just do that one instead!

Go Shipwreck Diving Off Lundy Island

Hopping back to Wales, Lundy is recognised as one of the UK’s top diving destinations, located just where the Bristol Channel meets the Atlantic. The island itself has a huge variety of dive sites, suitable for beginners and seasoned experts. Strap on a wetsuit and soon you could be exploring shipwrecks and coral coves, frolicking with seals, kayaking and rock pooling in the stunning scenery of Lundy Island. This beautiful spot is home to over 137 ghostly ships lurking just beneath the waves, and there are guided tours available for those who love their history as well.

Canoe The Severn

Herons, dragonflies, swans and otters will be your companions on a peaceful adventure along the Severn, where you'll pass estates and medieval manors' fish weirs, designed to trap migrating eels and salmon. Public access gives everyone the right to navigate from Pool Quay near Welshpool to Stourport, without a license, making a full trip around 85 miles. If you’re feeling brave you can tackle the whole route, but most beginners will canoe around 10-15 miles in total.

Explore The Slate Mines

Sate your thirst for adventure and descend into the miner’s world. Via Ferrata is a series of steel ladders and bridges that allow you to follow the old Victorian miner’s route along the cliffs to the summit of Fleetwith Pike, which stands at 2,126ft. If you fancy a real challenge, you could try the white knuckle version of the climb, which includes rows of iron run hand and foot holes drilled into the rock and a long zip line between the two cliff faces. You can access the mine for just the day, or you can stay in one of their mine side cottages and explore the local area.

Quad Biking

A bike ride may be healthier, a stroll may be more romantic, but nothing matches a quad biking session for sheer adrenaline-fuelled elation. The boisterous four-wheelers can be rented all across the British countryside, from small courses to the full of roading experience. So all you really need to do is pick your place, strap on a helmet and start tearing around the wilderness with your friends.

At Thames Valley Spice we specialise in creating adventure and social events for people all across the Thames Valley Area. So whether you’re looking for a day trip or a week long holiday packed with excitement, we have the perfect event for you.
