River Thames – Reading (Wokingham Waterside Centre) to the St. George and Dragon at Wargrave. This is a one-way, downstream trip, which leaves the main river to include St. Patricks Stream. We will arrange for transport back to the start point in members' cars to limit costs. We set off downstream with the prevailing wind on our backs and paddle for a mile and a half to reach the teas, ice creams and other essential facilities at Sonning Lock. Refreshed, we continue downstream for a further mile and turn off the main channel into St. Patrick's Stream. There are some shallows, some low trees and the delightful feeling of being on moving water on this lovely backwater.

The flow is maintained as this stream drops an equivalent fall to that at Shiplake Lock on the main river, which it bypasses. St. Patrick's Stream flows into the River Loddon and after another mile this rejoins the River Thames. Our destination is the landing stages at The St. George and Dragon at Wargrave. It promises to be another great day on the water, so don't forget your camera! The event will take around 4 hrs including stops. We paddle best quality Open Canoes, usually two paddlers per boat, as these are light, fast, comfortable and dry craft as small boats go.

The trips are lead by two British Canoe Union Level 3 coaches. This open canoe trip is suitable for all - all coaching, guidance, equipment, support and safety cover is included. You should dress as if you were going for a walk in the countryside, so do consider the weather. Soft soled shoes or boots are essential (trainers, wellies or deck shoes are ideal). Hard, rigid or leather soles are not suitable. Buoyancy aids are provided and to be worn when on or near the water. We provide plenty of dry storage for spare clothing, and food.

Adrian and Graham from Slipstream Canoes have many years of experience in paddle sports and have lead many trips in UK and abroad. If you have any questions about canoeing as an activity or this trip in particular, they will answer your questions, talk about previous Spice trips, advise what sort of hat makes this season's fashion statement or calculate how many Kcals you will burn by taking part.
