The Isle of Lewis is remote and requires effort not only to get there but to get around when you have arrived. The quickest and easiest way is to fly from Edinburgh or Glasgow with Logan Air to Stornoway. Timetable and costs are not yet released but I encourage you to check regularly for flight availability to get the best prices. You have 2 options for travel by car or public transport from the mainland – ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbet on The Isle of Harris and drive up to Lewis or the best option is ferry from Ullapool direct to Stornoway – 2018 timetable sand costs here – due to the early sailing it is advisable to stay in Ullapool the night before – and most importantly – pre book your car as this boat is always full. The later sailing on the Friday will not arrive in time for dinner.
When on the island transport is essential and I must stress to those not taking cars the public transport is basic and over the weekend cannot be relied on to get you around easily.Spice cannot guarantee there will be a space for you in a car for the outings if you have no car or no car hire planned.Current costs for car hire in Stornoway are around £120 for a small car for the duration of the stay.It will be well worth coordinating with others who you know have booked to arrange this, we will help where possible to.
