Dubrovnik: The main attraction of this trip for many of us will be the opportunity to visit and explore this stunning fortress city which is a short boat ride (or bus trip) from our hotel. George Bernard Shaw was enchanted by this beautiful city, about which he said "those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik", as well as, famously, describing it as "the pearl of the Adriatic". Dubrovnik truly is a stunning city with its amazing Old Town, which became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. The Old Town and its many sights including the well-preserved city walls along which you can walk. There are no fewer than 17 sumptuous churches crammed within barely a square kilometer of Old Town within the crowded confines of narrow streets and alleyways that are a joy to explore.

The Island of Lokrum is just 2 mins by boat from Dubrovnik Harbour and is well worth a visit.

Fans of ‘Game of Thrones’ will find many familiar sights in Dubrovnik and on Locrum as the series was filmed extensively at both locations.

Cavtat: To avoid the hustle & bustle of Dubrovnik itself (particularly when the cruise ships arrive!), those travellers in the know (like us!) base themselves 10 miles down the coast in the small harbour town of Cavtat (pronounced "tsavtat"), less than 45 minutes away by boat or bus. Here we’ll have the best of both worlds. You can enjoy the relaxed rhythm of life in a colourful waterfront community, while knowing that you can sample the attractions of Dubrovnik whenever you like (connecting services run every half hour or so). Cavtat is a fascinating and cultured destination in itself. Throughout the last century it was an exclusive retreat for wealthy Croatians (many of whom built mansions there), as well as a thriving hub for working artists. Fishing and tourist boats jostle with gleaming jet-set yachts; Cobbled streets with traditional red-roofed brownstone houses climb back from the blue of the waterfront. The sea is an unbroken blue.

Optional Day Trip: The Medieval Island of Korčula: This guided day trip by coach and boat is the chance to discover the narrow streets, beautiful churches and magnificent palaces in one of the best preserved Medievel towns in the Mediterranean. Our walking tour of the town will reveal some of the finest sites such as the Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace. Korčula is famous of stonemasons, shipbuilders, seafarers, Marco Polo, legends, tales and monuments. Rick Stein recently featured it on his “Venice to Istanbul” series. As well as sightseeing, there will be free time to take lunch or even swimming. On the return trip a stop will be made in one of the well known wine cellars of the Pelješac peninsula to sample some of the excellent local wine. There will be a chance to pre book this trip nearer the time. We expect the cost to be around £45 - £65 depending upon anticipated numbers and exchange rate fluctuations.

Exploring together: We should be able to see everything we wish in Dubrovnik and Cavtat by foot. It is usual for the coordinator to give group options each day and meet ups so that you can always be part of the group if you wish. Some options will involve costs such as boat trips to Dubrovnik, entry fees and any guided tours offered to the group. But we try to keep these to a minimum. The coordinator will give basic walking tours and information as we go.

Balance: Is due 12 weeks before departure. Deposit is non-refundable upon cancellation. After balance due date, cancellations operate on a sliding scale provided in the Success Tours Terms & Conditions.
