Walk the Ysgyryd Fawr, also known as the Holy Mountain or the Sacred Hill. Ysgyryd is a word describing the hill's shape, meaning something that has shivered or been shattered. According to legend, part of the mountain is said to have been broken off at the moment of the crucifixion of Jesus.
This energetic walk will take us through woodland and out onto open mountainside, before a steep climb to the summit. Isolated from the main mountain range by the Gavenny Valley, the Skirrid rises dramatically out of the landscape, despite being smaller than its neighbours at 486m high. This allows for fantastic views, Welsh weather permitting. On the walk you will discover about the Myths and Legends that surround this holy mountain. This walk is approximately 4 miles in length (6.4 KM) and will take 2 hours to compete the loop. This is a moderately challenging walk due to the height. Following the end of the walk will will visit the Skirrid Inn - the oldest and most haunted inn in Wales.
