Sunday Walk: Marple Quarry, Roman Lakes + Hawk Green
Overview
Today's walk takes us on a route along both the Peak Forest and Macclesfield Canals in Marple; a stroll through Barlow Wood, a broadleaved woodland designated as a site of Biological Importance (SBI).
We pass the Roman bridge over the River Goyt and join the Goyt Way along to the Roman Lakes (which is due to be open on this date, so take some coins and we will stop for a cup of tea) plus an opportunity to look at the site of Mellor Hall and Wellington Wheelpit.
There are a few ascents and descents on this walk so you need a bit of puff to do them - hence why it is shown as a grade 4.
