Slaithwaite Walk to Marsden Cuckoo Festival and Lunch
Overview
Many years ago the people of Marsden were aware that when the cuckoo arrived, so did the Spring and sunshine. They tried to keep Spring forever, by building a tower around the Cuckoo. Unfortunately, as the last stones were about to be laid, away flew the cuckoo. If only they’d built the tower one layer higher. As the legend says, it “were nobbut just wun course too low.
As well as events taking part in the park, Marsden has many quaint shops, pubs and cafes.
As Marsden will be very busy and parking will be difficult we will meet in Slaithwaite and walk here. If you arrive early there are a few independent shops and a gallery to look around in the town centre.
We will meet at Slaithwaite Railway station at 12pm and then walk along the canal to Marsden. It is about 2.5 miles and when we get there we will go to the New Inn for lunch. After we'll have a wander around the festival and see the parade at 3pm. We can either walk back or take the train to Slaithwaite.

Herb crusted Catch of the day served over crushed new potatoes with a white wine and dill cream sauce and garlic sauteed broccoli
Sliced chicken donner gyro served on a flatbread with fries and tzatziki

Sage and butternut squash gnocchi – potato gnocchi tossed through butternut squash puree, diced butternut squash and fresh sage (V, VE available)
Vegan Keema Kahari – vegan “lamb” mince pan seared and slow braised in tomato, fresh chilli, coriander seed, cummin, garam masala, red onion, pepper, lime and fresh coriander served with Chef’s homemade seasoned rice (VE, GF)

If you are coming by car there is parking at the station and down the hill.
