By rail:
Newcastle is on the East Coast main line and is well served by LNER, Cross Country, First ScotRail, First TransPennine Express, East Coast and Northern Rail. There are direct trains from London Kings Cross, Leeds, York, Manchester Victoria, Birmingham New Street, Edinburgh Waverley and many other mainline stations.
The hotel is about a mile walk from the station. If you would like to walk it, turn right out of the station and follow signs down to the quayside. Cross the river by either the Swing Bridge or Millennium Bridge to the Gateshead side, then turn left and walk with the river to your left until you reach the hotel which is beyond the Baltic centre.
If you prefer to take a taxi from the station, there are two Leonardo hotels in the city, so please make sure that the driver understands that you are going to the Leonardo Hotel Newcastle Quayside, on the Gateshead side of the river alongside the Baltic centre.
By road:
From the south, leave the A1(M) (to the right) at junction 65 and take the A194(M) towards South Shields.
At the end of the A194(M) (exit 3) take the first exit onto the A184 towards Newcastle and Gateshead.
After about 3½ miles, at the roundabout take the third exit signed Newcastle A167.
Take the next right signed Gateshead Quays onto Eastgate and then forward at the next lights onto Hawks Road. Bear left onto Mill Road, which becomes South Shore Road and you'll see the hotel on the left.
If arriving from north of Newcastle, leave the A1 at junction 77 onto the A167.
Follow this road (A167 / A167(M)) for about four miles, crossing the Tyne Bridge. After passing under the railway bridge, turn left signed Gateshead Quays onto Eastgate and then forward at the next lights onto Hawks Road. Bear left onto Mill Road, which becomes South Shore Road and you'll see the hotel on the left.
The hotel has a limited amount of parking, which cannot be reserved. Turn left into the car park from South Shore Road immediately before the hotel and wait for the barrier to rise. On departure you will need to collect a token from the hotel reception to raise the exit barrier. The hotel parking rate is usually £8.50 per day but is free for our group, so be sure to tell reception you are with the Spice Social group when collecting your token. There are no EV charging points at the hotel.
If the hotel's car park is full there are other sensibly-priced options nearby...
The Quarryfield Road car park (postcode NE8 3AE) is £22.50 for the maximum allowed 72 hour stay. If arriving at 3pm on the Friday this would cover you until the same time on Monday, which would allow enough time for anyone joining the Castle keep tour. From here it is only around a quarter of a mile walk back to the hotel.
Alternatively, the Garden Street car park (postcode NE8 2AU) is small but is £3.90 per day, so for £15.60 would cover any arrival time on Good Friday to any departure time on Easter Monday.
The nearest car park with EV charging is Swineburn Street car park (NE8 1AX). This is about half a mile from the hotel, priced at £15.40 for the four days.
Don't park at the Baltic Centre unless you are happy to pay over £100 for the three-night stay.
Please note that all prices are subject to change. Please check on arrival.
If your route takes you through the Newcastle and Gateshead Clean Air Zone, you do not have to pay anything if you are driving a private car.
If you travel through the Tyne Tunnel, then please note that you will have to pay £2.20 either beforehand or by the end of the following day at https://www.tt2.co.uk/how-do-you-want-to-pay/
