Overview

Join us today at Spring Farm and have a go at walking an alpaca around the beautiful farm in East Sussex.

Situated in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Spring Farm is superbly located adjacent to the Ashdown Forest, Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park and the historic village of Fletching. Alpaca walking is huge fun for everyone – not just for the alpacas!

Alpacas are delightful and friendly animals and at the Farm they all know their names. Everybody who comes to the farm for an alpaca trek comments on how relaxing the alpacas are to be around. With their inquisitive nature, they are great fun to take for a walk and are certain to put a smile on your face!

Make sure you book early so not to miss out.

This is a ticketed event so we would need to resell your space if you are unable to make it.

Walking with alpacas is great fun and we hope to make it both enjoyable and informative. All of there alpacas are halter trained and whilst there at Spring Farm you will get to meet some of them. All alpacas have their own personalities and come in an amazing 22 different colours (or perhaps more accurately – shades). We will introduce you to our walking team and to other groups of alpacas (and llamas) whilst you are here – including our mums and babies group. In 2022, they were blessed with 23 baby alpacas and 1 baby llama. For 2023 they are expecting 27 baby alpacas. Baby alpacas and llamas are called cria and the birthing period is mid May to the end of August

They will also educate you all about alpacas, where they came from, and their daily routines. As we are a farm in Higher Level Stewardship, they also pride themselves on there farm’s biodiversity. They will endeavour to make your walk with there alpacas a veritable “safari” and hopefully you will get to spot some of there other resident British wildlife. Even if not, they can tell you some of the sights you might see “next time” and some of the history of the High Weald and its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. They also take photos of the group walk which we send to you as a momento of your time with them (no charge). After the Alpaca Walk at 2pm we could go for some lunch nearby here are some suggestions.

Getting There

Spring Farm is conveniently situated in mid Sussex but convenient for Surrey, Kent and the South East of England. They are a short taxi drive (15 minutes) away from our local station at Haywards Heath. There is a large taxi rank at the station which is normally full unless there are problems with the trains. If you want to book a taxi, they tend to use Station Taxis on 01444 410410.

Haywards Heath station is approximately 45 minutes from London Victoria/London Bridge making a walk with alpacas an easy option for a day out from London or even Gatwick airport (30 minutes away by car)!

If you are using What3Words, to get to our farm drive, search for: variously.stubble.bedrooms

If you are travelling there to walk with alpacas by car, and you are using Sat-Nav (postcode TN22 3SA), then you may be directed to Archer’s Cottage/Moyses Farm. Don’t despair, they are slightly off the beaten track! You are on the right road and if you are passing the above farms on the left, keep going and you will find them on your left in about 800 yards. Look out for the sign and gate. The gate is always kept shut because of alpaca movements – please open and drive/walk in.

Host & Everything Else

After a short introduction, your guide will introduce you to the alpaca family. We ask you arrive at 11.30am. You will then halter up the walking alpaca team and set off for a casual walk around the 110 acre farm. During the walk, your guide will tell you a little about alpacas, their history, their stunning fleece and farming on Spring Farm.

The walk will last about 45 minutes and it is across undulating fields all within the farm's boundaries, so you should not encounter any unexpected surprises.

Allowing for the brief introduction and paying your walking alpaca (in carrots which are provided ready chopped!), the total the experience will last up to 2 hours.
