Judy Williams Award - BackgroundJudy Williams was an active and much loved Spice member, who tragically met with a fatal accident whilst rafting the Zambezi River on a Spice U.K. Overseas holiday on 7th September 1995. Following the accident, and in response to requests from the number of people who had their lives touched by Judy in Spice, this award is to be made annually in recognition of Personal Achievement. The Award has been funded by donations from Judy’s family and members of Spice. Judy was a symbol of life, full of energy, dynamism and fun on the one hand, with sympathy, empathy and kindness on the other, along with many other fine qualities. Judy admired natural beauty and loved to be outdoors, and was a very active Spice member. Through Spice she enjoyed the challenge of her first Tandem Skydive, the Fire Eating Workshop, Dance Courses and Skiing to name but a few, and then ultimately the trip out to Zimbabwe for a fortnight of camping and rafting on the Zambezi. Thus Judy thoroughly embodied the Spice spirit of living life to the full. The Award is in honour of Judy, and to celebrate someone who - like her - has pushed way beyond their personal boundaries and fears, reaching personal goals, or perhaps to recognise an act of courage or personal commitment by a Spice Member. The Award will be passed on annually to the new achiever - not necessarily the person who does the most activities or the most dangerous activities, but more the person who personally achieved the most and reaches personal goals through their involvement with Spice.
