Skid Pan Session

Years of traffic policing and accident investigation have proved that a large percentage of road accidents involve a skid of one type or another. Unless you have experienced a skid you will not realise how helpless you feel. The consequences can be disastrous in terms of injury and damage, both physical and financial. This evenings training concentrates on the recognition of the causes of the various types of skids and preventing skids occurring in the first place. Apart from the serious side, which includes improved steering techniques, manoeuvring ability and confidence skid pan training is REAL FUN and makes a great evening out

Swains are a super new driving school that have a superb skid pan area. They have 2 vehicles dedicated to skid pan training; Front wheel drive and Rear wheel drive. A different technique is required for each vehicle. You will be able to try both vehicles and see the difference.

The session starts with an explanation of the safety rules followed by a demonstration drive by the instructor. You will then be split into twos to complete your one hour skid pan session i.e. you get to sit in the car while the other person drives round the skid pan (this is probably the scariest bit!!!). Note is you tend to get a bit travelsick it may be worth sitting out while the other person is driving to avoid getting thrown about too much in the back! Your time slot will be notified to you prior to the event Wear old clothes and shoes as they can get a bit oily.

DIRECTIONS: Take the A6 into Buxton and come out the other side on A515 by following to Ashbourne. You will come to Buxton Hospital on your left. Turn right here into Harpur Hill Road. After about 2 miles turn right at The Parks Inn then take your first left. You will go uphill along a very bendy road. At the top there is a sharp right hand bend with Harpur Hill Industrial Estate straight in front of you. Swains driving centre is just on the right after the bend. After coming through Buxton you will be following signs to Harpur Hill Industrial Estate all the way
