HOW DO YOU START HORSE RIDING? I MEAN REALLY START-WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE YOU TURN UP AT THE STABLES AND ARE INTRODUCED TO A FULLY KITTED UP ANIMAL, READY TO GO?

This afternoon will commence with a brief discussion about catching a horse in a field-then off you go ; spot one you like the look of, then go and catch it!

Once you have caught your trusty steed you will be shown how to safely lead him under cover, and tie him up. The next step is grooming of your horse, you will learn which type of brush to use, and how to forma bond with your horse. When you feel really confident- it's time to clean out the feet! Remember that proggy bit on your penknife for getting stones out of horses hooves? This is your chance to do it for real, a pedicure for a four-legged friend.

Once you are 'ready for the road' you will be shown how to saddle up (how tight should those straps be?), fit the bridle, and once everything is checked for safety you will be invited to mount up.

With all this preparation completed it's only fair that you enjoy some time together with your horse. The last hour or so will be spent enjoying a basic lesson in western style riding, finishing about 5pm. You will need to bring waterproof clothing (just in case) and wear boots with a definite heel (trainers are unsuitable). A map will be sent to all participants.
