A PERFECT CHANCE FOR YOU TO SAMPLE CAVING AND ABSEILING IF YOU'VE NEVER DONE THEM BEFORE UNDER THE GENTLE INSTRUCTION OF SMUDGE BATEMAN.

Less well known than the neighbouring Yorkshire Dales and quite different in character, the limestone caves of the Peak District offer excellent opportunitiee for inexperienced cavern. Today we visit Carlewark Cavern which is ideal for Spice groups - not too demanding and with scope to have loads of fun....This is not a technical cave and is perfect for seeing if caving is for you or not. The exit from the cave is a short scramble. bring your oldest clothes and preferably full waterproofs. You also need marigold (rubber) gloves and wellies. For afterwards you'll need a complete change of clothing and a bin liner for the grubby clothes. Immediately opposite the entrance to the cave is Carlewark edge which again is perfect for beginner abseilers. It's about 50ft and would be a great intro to abseiling under the gentle but encouraging instruction of Smudge. Bring a packed lunch and a flask though we may time permitting be able to nip to a nearby cafe instead. Directions: Situated in the village of Stoney Middleton on the A623. Coming form the east it is 0.5 mile past the traftic lights at the Calver crossroads on the A623. It is quite easy to mise so keep your eyes peeled!
