Variety is the Life of Spice
The desire to do something a little out of the ordinary, is in all of us. Sadly it is seldom achieved. How many times do we all say "I would love to try that BUT..."?
SPICE (Special Programme of Initiative Challenge or Excitement) is a nationwide organisation designed to help you "Live Your Dream!" It organises different activities on a monthly basis, circulating details to members by way of the web and regular newsletters.
A thriving group with over 28 successful years behind it, over 100,000 members have passed through its ranks, all finding adventure and excitement, new friendships and experiences, adding that extra ingrediant to life. Spice originated in Manchester where its founder and national Co-ordinator Dave Smith still maintains the head office.
Spice also has regional offices covering Scotland, Manchester, Yorkshire, East Midlands, West Midlands, Thames Valley and Solent, and London.
Members are ordinary everyday people who want to do extraordinary things in their spare time. In short, people who want to add a little Spice to life - that extra magic ingredient. Their are currently over 12,000 satisfied members
Among the most popular adventure activities are white water rafting, fire eating, hot air ballooning, bungee jumping, abseiling and tightrope walking. In addition there are more usual activities such as theatre, cinema, wine-tasting, ballroom dancing, cookery classes, ten-pin bowling, badminton - a trip down the local sewers or a look behind the scenes of a newspaper.
Subscription numbers are growing each month, as more people hear about Spice, either from friends or by reading about the exploits of its members in the press.
Granada TV dedicated a half hour documentary to Spice, when viewers saw one inspiring elderly lady leap out of an aircraft at 12000ft! So Spice is not only for the young - its members are of all ages and professions and couple and family subscription is positively encouraged.
Average age tends to be in the 30's - 40's, but club policy is all ages, all comers - although there is a minimum age of 18.
Each Spice office is run by Co-ordinators with many years experience organising group adventure activities, and the monthly programme of events is set up with the absolute beginner in mind.
During the year members are invited to literally hundreds of Spice events in their area - to try things new, to achieve ambitions, make dreams come true and generally make life that little bit more amazing. All are fun, exciting, different, challenging. Most important - each activity has its own special instructor, highly qualified to teach even the basic techniques, so the members are sure to be in capable hands.
Members do not go on every activity or trip - just the ones which interest them, although they soon discover it's fun to try anything once and, through Spice, meet other people of all ages with the same positive outlook on life.
The website is constantly updated with news and events, and a regular Spice newsletter drops through the letter box to advise members of activities scheduled for the coming months and keeping them up to date.
The cost of UK events varies, from nothing to a few hundred pounds for the many holidays, but all are usually cheaper than individuals could negotiate due to the group discounts and economy savings. There is also an activity holiday programme - the club has fantastic adventure trips to destinations such as Egypt, the Alps, the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Turkey, Amsterdam and Paris, as well as rafting the Grand Canyon, diving in the Red Sea and regular winter skiing both sides of the Atlantic!
Spice Members agree that it is the adventure and social group for people who want to get more out of life, more fun and friendship, more adventure and excitement. They are united in one common purpose - enjoying life to the full!
